I have built an interactive data dashboard that shows which parties control the House and the Senate from the year 2000 to 2024. And it also includes a state-by-state map of every Senate, race, and House delegation. It has 6 pages, U.S. Congress, Governor, Senate story, notes, and sources. I decided to make it while I was watching the 2026 midterm elections. And I wanted to see the history, on which party has been holding Congress, how often it changes, and if there's anything new for the 2026 midterm elections. I found out an interesting pattern that the president's party, has always lost the House seats in 18 of 20 midterm elections since the year 1946. I built the dashboard with with JavaScript and then I cleaned all the data using Python. I then built the site with Astro and D3, us-atlas TopoJSON, Natural Earth for water and land. I have hosted it on GitHub pages, and I have deployed it with GitHub actions. You can check out the dashboard here - github.com/Kinjuriu/us-elections-dashboard. I use Claude Opus to plan and design, and then Claude Sonnet wrote most of the code. So the 2026 results are still not yet in. I will add them once the states certify the elections.
