Ask HN: Where should I start to do marketing?

so basically i want to do marketing my website , i am running google ads right now and there conversion in okay okay , i am not satisfied with that at all. now i am creating content also (not much but 2 reel published with 3000+ view on each) on my personal account because i think that we have to start market our self first.

if you have any suggestion like in which platform i should focus and which type of content

Good that you realized distribution is the king! There is no 1 size fit all but understanding your ICP, where the hang out, identifying the channels, identfying the peers in those channels and seeing what works for them, experiment, documenting and learning can get you started. Good luck! :)

Where is your ideal customer? What do they read and watch? If you can answer those questions, you've likely found your answer. If you can't answer those questions, then identifying who your ideal customer is and where they spend their attention is where you should focus.

Views per video aren't as important as sales per video (or leads per video).

Which type of content probably depends again on what you're ideal customer knows and doesn't know and the problem they're trying to solve right before they buy. (If you sell $20k-500k solar systems, it's different than if you sell plushy animals.)

Sorry to be vague, but a general question can only get a general answer.

(If reels are working, man, keep it up. More sales means more money to experiment with different content and platforms. LTV:CAC is one of the most important numbers you can know. Try to get LTV up so you can afford customers at a higher CAC and you'll have freedom to try, fail, and learn in your marketing.)

im still figuring this out too. i started with my local market and reached out to ppl i know first, and we're almost at 1000 users now. what kind of website are you marketing?

I have different websites: - cloud infrastructure-based - Shopify and e-commerce-based - SEO content generation-based

Currently I am marketing on Instagram, Facebook like social media, then Medium and Dev.to and some times in reddit also
