Ask HN: Why does account age matter?
Posted by lemmeasku 15 hours ago
When a person posts from a single purpose account or a sock puppet for the precise reason of obscuring their anonymity, why does some user always attack them for having a new account as if they the person was also created recently?
Are these bots whose LLMs actually think they are talking with a person that is 13 minutes old or whatever?
My main question is: What does the age of the account have to do with the point being made? A good point is a good point. A good question is a good question.
What’s even crazier is nobody cares if the account is anonymous as long as it’s old.
Never understood that one, and I see so many conversations derailed by it that I wonder if it should be a rule: Like ad hominem attacks, any sort of argument involving the age of the account is a logical fallacy.

Fully anonymous commenting creates certain incentives and you can see those at work on 4chan. There are good points and questions to be had there by anonymous posters but it's a more difficult exercise in finding and parsing them.
