How would opt-out help at a societal level? Reddit offers an opt-out (old.reddit.com) of some of its most deleterious changes, but that didn't stop the site from going downhill overall: the vast majority of users remained on the new site or the phone app.

I can imagine the same with opt-out of algorithms: you might get a saner view, but you are still on a platform that has an overall culture molded by the default view.

It probably won't, too many people just go down the default path with any app, however as an individual it would be nice to have a way to curate my feed

That seems like a fantastic idea, I hope it goes through and gets widely imitated in other countries. I imagine that the usual villain gallery will launch a panicked lobbying initiative behind the scenes.
