Can Gender Equality and Religious Liberty Coexist?

This can be phrased w/o gender - can equality exist with religious liberty? Some social groupings are inclusive, some are exclusive and the latter runs the risk of colliding with equality/liberty arguments. They could be religious, political, economic, whatever.

Just a veneer on the us vs them argument of primates that predate humans.
